Large calculation frame up to 9999999, the Montessori abacus 7 digits

Wood,  25,5 x 17 x 4,5 cm, Made in Germany

The arithmetic framework enables even small children to calculate with numbers in the millions. The pearls are shifted depending on the calculation and the result can already be read.

The child is given a task, for example, 123400 + 789198. By simply moving the pearls in the respective area, the number is added. Subtractions and multiplications can also be carried out easily.

Application, advantages, areas of application for this Montessori material:

    • Train additions up to a result of 9,999,999

    • Made in Germany

    • Learn subtractions below 9,999,999

    • Montessori material for children from 5 years

    • Practice multiplications up to 9,999,999

Scope of the Montessori arithmetic material:
Wooden frame with metal rods and wooden balls, approx. 21.5 x 17 x 4.5 cm

Instructions for the large Montessori calculation frame

The adult places the computing frame on the table in front of him.
The pearls of the computing frame are on the left. Now he pushes a green single pearl on the right side and says: This is one. Then he takes a bead of ten, also pushes it to the right and says: That's ten. The remaining pearl categories are introduced in the same way (hundreds, thousands ...)

For better clarification, the branded game or the golden pearl material can be added to this exercise. Here the adult pushes the single bead of the computing frame to the right, then places the single tile from the token game or a single bead made from the bead material on the table and says: This is one. Likewise with everyone else.

If the calculation framework is now in place, the next exercise can be started.
The adult begins with the one's pearls. He pushes bead by bead from left to right and counts aloud (one, two, three ... ten). Now we switch to the next category: We swap ten ones for a ten. Now the ten ones are pushed back to the left and a bead of ten to the right. The tens of pearls are counted in steps of ten (ten, twenty .... one hundred - exchange ten tens for one hundred pearl). The remaining pearls are also counted.

As in the token game, arithmetic problems can be solved (231 + 924 - slide to the right a unit bead, three tens beads and two hundred beads 231 plus 924 now there are four unit bead, two tens and nine hundred bead. With this task, a category change can be made can be practiced by exchanging the ten hundred

bead for a thousand beadSubtraction with the Montessori arithmetic frame
The arithmetic frame is on the table, the beads are on the left edge. A task is chosen, e.g. 2526 - 1234.

For the number 2526, 6 green ones-pearls (top row), 2 blue tens-pearls (second row from top), 5 red hundred-pearls and 2 green thousand-pearls pushed to the right.
The number 1234 is subtracted. To do this, 4 pearls from the ones on the right are pushed back to the left edge (minus 4). Since 3 cannot be deducted from 2 tens, the calculation must be made in partial steps (minus 2 and minus 1). First, the two existing pearls are subtracted (pushed to the left). Now one hundred is exchanged for ten tens. A hundred bead is pushed to the left and 10 tens to the right.
Now the second partial calculation (minus 1) can be made. A ten-bead is pushed back to the left edge.

In the hundreds row, 2 of the four remaining pearls are subtracted (to the left) and in the thousands row 1 pearl (also to the left).
The result can be read on the right edge: 1292.
2526 - 1234 = 1292

Multiplication without exchange
The pearls of the calculation frame are on the left edge.
There the respective category of numbers is printed for each row of pearls (

ones, tens, hundreds ...) A task is chosen, eg 216574 x 2 =

Now it is calculated in the head. First the ones (here 4), then the tens (here 7), the hundreds (here 5), thousands (here 6), the tens of thousands (here 1) and finally the hundreds of thousands (here 2) are multiplied by 2.

4 x 2 = 8 (8 green ones are pushed to the right)
7 x 2 = 14 (14 tens are 1 hundred and 4 tens - 4 blue tens and one red hundreds
are pushed to the right)
5 x 2 = 10 (10 hundreds is 1 thousand - 1 green thousand pearl is pushed to the right)
6 x 2 = 12 (12 thousand is 2 thousand and 1 ten thousand - 2 green thousand and 1 blue
ten thousand pearl are pushed to the right)
1 x 2 = 2 (2 blue tens are pushed to the right)
2 x 2 = 4 (4 red hundreds of thousands are pushed to the right)

From top to bottom are the following pearls on the right edge of the calculation frame:

8 green ones
4 blue tens
1 red hundreds
3 green thousands
3 blue tens of thousands
4 red hundreds of thousands

The result can therefore be read from bottom to top: 433148

multiplication with exchange

Some tasks require the exchange of pearls in the next

category of numbers, e.g. 23978 x 4 =

8 x 4 = 32 (to be pushed to the right: 2 green ones, 3 blue tens)

7 x 4 = 28 (to be pushed to the right: 8 blue tens - does not work, since only ten pearls

are available per row and three have already been pushed to the right. Now you

first, push the remaining seven to the right, then the 10 tens are

exchanged for a hundred, i.e. one-hundred pearl to the right the ten tens again to the left.

Finally, the missing tens are pushed to the right edge (one more

pearl) and two red hundred pearls)

9 x 4 = 36 (are pushed to the right: 6 red hundreds, 3 green thousands)

3 x 4 = 12 (are shifted to the right: 2 green thousands, 1 blue tens of thousands)

2 x 4 = 8 (are shifted to the right: 8 blue tens of thousands)

The result can now be read from bottom to top: 95912
