Pearl chain and squares
Pearl necklaces and squares, colored with suspension, learn to understand square numbers with Montessori
Plastic beads, wooden shelf: approx. 40 x 5 x 5 cm, 21 parts
Multiplication in the square is child's play with the colored pearl necklaces and squares. There is a matching square for every pearl necklace.
For example, the child wants to know how much 5 x 5 is. There are two ways of doing this: Either it counts down the individual pearls of the chain of five, or it counts down the corresponding five square.

Instructions for the pearl necklaces and pearl squares
The child chooses a pearl necklace and folds it into a square next to the corresponding square. To make the equivalence of both squares clear, the square is placed over the folded chain. Then you pull the pearl necklace apart and the child names which necklace they have chosen, e.g. four. Now the pearl sticks of the chain are counted: four pieces - four times the four.
If the arrows for the square chains are present, the arrows in the chain color are added and the chain is marked with numbers. This also makes it easier to count the pearls. In the case of a chain of four:
1,2,3,4 (all pearls on the first stick get an arrow), 8 (only the last pearl on the second stick gets an arrow), 12 (last pearl on the third stick) and 16 (last pearl on the fourth stick).
